It can get confusing very quickly. We are here to help with our new 2017 guide of the best computer for graphic design.

We compared the most important features, such as memory, CPU, screen size, color depth, style, and price. Then we narrowed our research to find the best computer for graphic design to make your decision easy.

Necessities for the Best Computer for Graphic Design

While shopping for the best computer for graphic design, consider these minimum requirements:

  • Memory. Available memory is maybe the most important consideration. Graphic design programs require significant amounts of memory and it only increases with each new release. 4GB of RAM is the lowest amount required, but more is better.
  • CPU. A strong central processing unit is vital for handling requirements of modern graphic design programs. Four cores and higher are ideal. Intel’s Core i5 and i7 are excellent choices.
  • Screen Size. The best computer for graphic design should have a screen size of at least 15” .  A 17” screen, or larger, is ideal for up close and detailed work.
  • Color Depth. The quality and accuracy of the colors displayed on the computer screen will be crucial.
  • Laptop or Desktop. Laptops are the most popular choice these days due to the portability factor. Modern photo editing computers are now lighter than earlier models and battery life has been extended greatly. If the need to be mobile is not important then you may wish to stick with a desktop. However in today’s market, it is becoming more difficult to find the best computer for graphic design in desktop form.

Top 3 Best Computer for Graphic Design Reviews

1. Apple MacBook Pro

Since computers first hit market, Apple computers have been associated with graphic design. Many experts will turn their noses up at the thought of using anything other than a Mac for design purposes. That said, we have to agree that the Apple MacBook Pro is the best computer for graphic design purposes.

With a quad Intel Core i7, the MacBook Pro will handle even the most complex graphics with ease and still have room to run other programs in the background. The Mac OS X version 10.10 is one of the best operating systems you will find. And, with a massive 16GB of RAM and 256 GB on the hard drive, memory will never a problem no matter which applications you are running.

Apple has clearly designed the MacBook Pro with graphic design (and gaming) in mind as the IPS Retina screen gives a crystal clear 2880 x 1880 pixel display on a 15.4” screen. This is by far the best that we have come across.

For us personally, the MacBook Pro comes tops the competition for many reasons. The screen clarity and massive memory are two of the biggest pluses along with the fact that the Apple MacBook Pro delivers very accurate color representation. Additionally, the almost nine hours of battery life is a big bonus.

2. The Razer Blade

Razer is not the biggest player in the computer business. However, with the Razer Blade they have come up with a truly great laptop computer for video editing and graphic design as well as gaming. In terms of specifications, it rates as highly as the MacBook Pro. The only drawback we noticed off the bat was the slightly smaller 14” screen. Despite the smaller screen, the resolution is excellent at 3200 x 1800 pixels.

That small gripe apart, the Razer Blade performs incredibly well and handles even the most complex graphics with ease. Very much in the Razer Blade’s favor is its slim design and total weight of just 4.5 pounds. For graphic designers who insist that a PC cannot compete with a Mac, I would suggest giving the Razer Blade a spin. They will be pleasantly surprised or even shocked that it can match the MacBook Pro and give it a run for its money as the best computer for graphic design.

3. Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK 15.6″

Despite having less memory than the MacBook Pro and Razer Blade, the Dell Inspiron i7559 is a great computer for graphic design. 8GB of RAM has not hindered our use of any of the major graphics applications and the large 15.6” screen is probably the Dell Inspiron i7559’s biggest attraction as even detailed close-up work is not a problem.

Running Windows 10, the i7559 is extremely fast and screen refreshing is done in an instant avoiding those annoying time lapses of earlier operating systems. The i5 Quad core processor gives more than enough power to accomplish even the most complicated graphic design tasks.

Having less memory than other laptops and being somewhat heavier than most at almost nine pounds, the Inspiron i7559 may not be the best computer for graphic design you will find but it is certainly in the top bracket and worth a look.
